#257 / Changing the world can wait
“You have come so far. You may have further to go. But you should always remember to pause and be proud.”
December is a time to stop, as much as we can.
There’s a hustle culture that’s a little too pervading for my comfort - a hustle culture that says we can’t take a foot off the gas. We can’t pause. We can’t relax. We can’t waste a single moment. I’ve often found myself falling in with that thinking. It’s addictive, in a way. And it’s easy to feel important, to feel successful, to feel as though we’re moving the needle, if we never stop moving ourselves.
But it’s the end of the year. The end of a bloody difficult year, at that. The end of a year that has tried and tested each and every one of us. If you’re reading this, I have two pieces of quite excellent news for you.
The first - that you made it. Against any odds, you made it here. You survived the hard times, and you’re still standing.
The second - that you’ve earned a fucking break. You don’t need to do everything. Achieve everything. Win at everything. You’re allowed to break with the culture that surrounds us and commit yourself to a month off. The world can wait, and so can changing it. Your drive will still be there in January.
All my love,
Give away a book that you think could help, inspire, cheer or just comfort someone. A book you love, that could bring love to a friend. Let some magic into someone else's life.
Write yourself a love letter. About how much you mean to you. My friend challenged me to do this yesterday, and I think it's a wonderful idea. Write a real letter, on real paper, and seal it with a kiss and keep it somewhere safe. Treasure it, and read it when times are hard.
Get your hydration back on track today. No matter what's on your schedule, make some time to drink a few bottles of water, and see how it makes you feel. I mean, it can't make you feel any worse, right? 💖
